Key Information About the Study
You are being asked to participate in a research database survey. The purpose of the database survey is to gain your contact and basic household information so that Family and Relationships Research Network of Missouri (FARR-Net) researchers may contact you for future research studies that one or more of your household members may qualify for based on your answers. Possible benefits include helping FARR-Net researchers better understand family and relationship dynamics in order to help Missouri residents and families’ wellbeing. Some possible risks include breach of confidentiality and personal information, although FARR-Net researchers will do everything in their power to keep your information confidential and secure.
Purpose of the Research
You are being asked to participate in this study because you are a Missouri resident over the age of 18 who lives in a household with at least 2 total members (e.g., spouse/partner, children, parents). The purpose of this database survey is to gain your contact and basic household information so that FARR-Net researchers may contact you for future studies that one or more members of your household may qualify for based on your answers. You are not obligated to participate in any of the studies you are contacted about. Each study that contacts you will have to be approved by the University of Missouri Institutional Review Board prior to requesting your participation, and you will have to provide consent for your participation (and/or permission for the participation of any children under the age of 18 years). Each study you participate in may also provide you with compensation for your time and each study may provide us updated information regarding your household contact information. Your contact and basic information will be stored on a secure server under the regulation of the University of Missouri for as long as you “opt-in” to be contacted. We will also track which research studies you participate in with FARR-Net researchers. The information you provide will be kept confidential and only the FARR-Net approved research team members will have access.
What will happen during the survey?
You will create an account on our database, be asked to confirm your email address, and then complete a 5 minute survey requesting contact information and basic information regarding the number people and types of relationships in your household.
What are the expected benefits of the study?
One benefit of completing the database survey is that you will be directly contacted when you or one or more of your household members are eligible for a study. These studies may provide monetary benefits to their participants, and the results will improve our understanding of youth, families, and relationships over our lifespan.
What are the possible risks of participating in the database survey?
There are minimal risks expected when taking part in this survey. Some possible risks include a breach of confidentiality of personal information. The database will contain a list of study titles that database members participated in. Thus, a breach of confidentiality would reveal contact information as well as the titles of the studies that they participated in. A breach of confidentiality could therefore potentially lead to embarrassment or other type of distress if the study title indicated that they participated in a study focused on a sensitive topic (e.g., interpersonal violence). To help lower these risks, your information will be stored on a secure and password protected server on the University of Missouri system and only approved FARR-Net staff and researchers will have access to the information. We will tell you about any new information we learn that may affect your decision to continue to participate.
What other choices do I have if I don’t want to be in this study?
You are not required to participate in this database survey. You can simply choose not to participate. You can look for other research projects you may be interested in instead of this database survey. Additionally, you can pause or end your participation in the database at anytime by logging back into your database account.
Will I receive compensation for taking part in this database survey?
You will not be compensated for completing this initial database intake survey. However, studies that contact you based on your database information may compensate you for participating in those studies.
What information about me will be kept private?
The research team is committed to respecting your privacy and keeping your personal information confidential. We will make every effort to protect your information to the extent allowed by law. Your information will only be shared with FARR-Net researchers whose studies may be relevant to you or your household members so that they may contact you for participation. Your information will be kept as secure as possible to prevent your identity from being disclosed. Identifiers might be removed from the identifiable private information and that, after such removal, the information could be used for future research studies or distributed to another investigator for future research studies without additional informed consent from the subject or household members.
Who do I contact if I have questions or concerns?
